Home Automation with Home Cinema

This 8,500sq ft new build property was given the full treatment with Home Automation, Home Cinema & Lighting Control systems designed and installed as part of an integrated package. With 6 bedrooms across 4 floors, the high definition video distribution system allows each room to view Sky HD, Apple TV or Blu Ray films all controlled using Control4′s intelligent control system which enables users to control TV, music, cinema, lighting, security and heating via wireless remote controls, iPod’s and iPads.

Every room has music and Lutron lighting control with the 3D cinema using a JVC projector and 3,000mm fixed screen manufactured using ‘acoustic pass-through material ‘ which allowed us to conceal the front channels of the 7.1 surround sound system behind the screen.

Multi-room audio system

With such a large number of zones requiring music and the client wanting to operate the system via wireless remotes, we chose to design the system using Control4 as the basis for control, adding 6 amplifiers to power the music for the 14 zones. The cinema, games room, lounge and children’s lounge received dedicated amplifiers providing surround sound (7.1 in the cinema, 5.1 within the other zones) whilst the rest of the house and outdoor zones were powered via two amplifiers to give stereo audio. The music is stored digitally on a rack-mounted storage device which means the music is accessible from any room in the house.

Home cinema room

We designed the cinema room around the space given within the basement area, which is a perfect space from a lighting and acoustic perspective. The finished room is functional and comfortable with a fixed screen and projector as the room is a dedicated cinema room. The screen is a huge 3,000mm (overall size 3,200mm) and is manufactured from an acoustic material which allowed us to build the speakers and subwoofer into the wall behind the screen which has small perforations which allow sound through.

Lighting control system

Controlling the diverse number and type of light fittings is a Lutron lighting system which gives total control over the lighting so that scenes/modes can be set easily depending on mood and use of room. The system is simple to use and can be controlled from the wall controls or though the wireless remotes, iPod’s and iPads, raising or lowing lighting levels of lighting circuits simultaneously and individually.
