A dedicated two-tier cinema room in a modern new build at Wynyard Park, Yarm — eight seats, a 160-inch acoustically transparent screen, Sony 4K laser projection and a 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos sound system designed and calibrated by our team. This is one of the most technically accomplished cinema rooms we've delivered, and it's the most used room in the house. The client wanted a proper cinema — not a media room, not a TV snug, but a dedicated space that could deliver a commercial-grade experience for films, live sport and gaming. The room measured 8 metres long, 5 metres wide and 3 metres high, giving us the scale to design a two-tier seating layout with unobstructed sightlines from every seat. A room this size demands precise acoustic design. The volume of air, the hard surfaces and the sheer output required from a 9.4.4 system all had to be modelled and treated properly — otherwise the room sounds impressive for ten minutes and fatiguing for anything longer. Every element, from the acoustic treatment to the seating rake to the projector throw distance, was calculated rather than estimated. Display Audio Lighting Control "We couldn't do a new build again without having a cinema room. It's the most used room by the whole family. What you have produced in the space is outstanding — thank you." — Rob Planning a dedicated cinema room? Get in touch → or book a private demonstration →
Wynyard Park — Dedicated Home Cinema, 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos
The brief
The challenges
What we designed and installed
A 160-inch 16:9 acoustically transparent screen paired with a Sony 4K laser projector. The acoustically transparent screen allows the front speakers to sit directly behind it, so dialogue comes from the screen rather than from speakers off to the side — essential for a room of this quality.
A 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos system using Artcoustic speakers throughout — high-SPL loudspeakers engineered specifically for dedicated cinema environments. Four subwoofers deliver consistent, powerful bass from every seat, and the Atmos height channels create genuine three-dimensional immersion. Processing and amplification by Anthem.
Scene-based lighting controlled through Control4 — the room shifts from full light to cinema mode automatically when a film starts, with star-ceiling effects adding atmosphere without spilling light onto the screen.
A Control4 system manages all lighting, AV equipment, audio distribution and room presets. One button starts a film — dimming the lights, lowering any shades, powering the projector and selecting the source. A second preset switches the room to live sport mode with brighter lighting and a different audio profile.Technology summary
