Bespoke Media Wall Installation in Harrogate
The client already had a dedicated cinema room within the attic eaves, but its location meant it was rarely used.
The brief was to create a more informal family entertainment space within the main living area, while retaining the performance of the existing cinema system. The room needed to work equally well for films, television and gaming, particularly for a family who spend a lot of time gaming together.
The client wanted to reuse the existing Artcoustic speakers and subwoofers, but did not want visible loudspeakers to dominate the interior.
The challenges
The main challenge was bringing high-performance cinema audio into an informal lounge without making the room feel like a dedicated cinema.
The Artcoustic speakers and subwoofers were designed to deliver serious performance, but their size and appearance were not suited to the clean interior the client wanted.
The surround channels also needed to remain completely discreet, while still creating an immersive sound field throughout the room.
For gaming, the client wanted the largest practical screen without compromising refresh rate or everyday usability. This ruled out a traditional projection system and led us towards a large-format television.
What we designed and installed
Media wall design
We designed a bespoke fabric media wall to conceal the front speakers and subwoofers.
The acoustically transparent fabric allows sound to pass through without affecting performance, while removing the visual distraction of large speakers and technical equipment.
The finished wall creates one clean architectural feature rather than a collection of visible screens, speakers and cabinets.
Hidden front speakers
The client’s existing Artcoustic speakers and subwoofers were retained and integrated behind the fabric wall.
This allowed the client to preserve the performance of the original cinema system while completely changing how the technology appeared within the room.
The speakers remain acoustically open but visually concealed.
Stealth surround sound
The rear channels were provided by Cerasona plaster-in wall speakers.
These are installed within the wall finish and plastered over, leaving no visible speaker grilles or conventional loudspeakers within the room.
The result is a full surround-sound experience with no obvious indication of where the sound is coming from.
Television and gaming
A 90-inch television forms the centre of the media wall.
The large screen provides the visual impact of a dedicated cinema while retaining the high refresh rate, low input lag and everyday convenience needed for gaming.
For this family, the screen needed to perform as well for consoles and fast-moving games as it did for films and television.
Equipment integration
The supporting equipment was carefully integrated into the media wall and surrounding joinery.
This keeps source equipment, cabling and amplification out of sight while maintaining suitable access for ventilation, servicing and future upgrades.
The system was designed to be simple enough for the whole family to use without needing multiple controls or complicated start-up routines.
The finished result
The underused attic cinema was replaced by a family entertainment space that now sits at the centre of daily life.
The client retained the performance of the existing Artcoustic system, but without the visual distraction of exposed speakers or cinema equipment.
The acoustically transparent fabric wall, plaster-in surround speakers and 90-inch television create an immersive space for films and gaming while still allowing the room to function as a relaxed and comfortable lounge.
It is gaming heaven without the aesthetic compromise.
